"Once you have had a wonderful dog, a life without one is a life diminished."
— Dean Koontz
We knew that another dog who needed a home would come and replace the beloved Hendrix.
Turns out that destiny sent three. I don’t have a picture of all three together yet, but the nutshell of it is that three bonded senior dogs need a place to stay together.
Graham the pittie is described as a perfect angel! The 2 doxies are Radar, 17, and Coco, 15. The are all very friendly and sweet and pretty low key. Pictures attached (supposedly the pics were taken a year or so ago).
The correct story is Radar and Coco's owner passed away 3 years ago and the dogs moved in with Graham. They have been inseparable since. Graham's owner recently went to jail and won't be getting out ever (don't know the details). The dogs were surrendered to a shelter a few days ago. The family friend that we're talking to is willing to drive them all the way to you to save them!
Very few people are willing to bring three dogs into their homes, especially an eight-year-old pit bull and a 17-year-old and 15-year-old father/daughter Dachshund pair. I guess that my partner and I are those people. Disrupting their bond would be cruel and traumatic, and we have a home with more than enough love and resources to meet all of their needs and then some.
Old dogs are the best kind. In a few days, we’re driving down from our spot in Western Washington, across Oregon, and just over the border into California to pick up our new companions. While we get to know each other, I will be working on a writing project, but I also intended to share a lot of images of the new crew.
Thank you, readers, for being here. Thank you for caring about the state of humanity, and for your interest in where all of us are headed. Stay tuned, because in 2024 I’ll be thinking about and exploring possible futures for our species and planet.
Meanwhile, I hope you find peace, meaning, and faithful friends during this holiday season. Remember to pay something good in your life forward if you can.
Warmly,
Pen
This post brought a spark of joy...thinking of your home, filled with love and generosity at the start of this holiday season.
Kudos, Pen. This is wonderful. You have a huge and generous heart.
A few years ago, I enjoyed volunteering for the Great Dog Rescue of New England. My "job" was to perform the home visit before an adoption was finalized. I met the new owners and walked the home and property. It was a formality but sometimes I would spot safety issues. I think I vetoed only three of all the many visits. Mostly I met kind dog loving folks. For the ones getting their first pup, I could help with some tips.
But the people that impressed me the most were those folks willing to take older dogs to see them through their last years.
The Pandemic put a halt to that work. But it had been a wonderful way to spend my time.
Dog is my co-pilot.
