When I graduated from high school in California 1971. Junior colleges were free and the state college tuition was minimal. So in comes Ronny Reagan on his high horse and puts an end to that. And it only got worse when he became the nation’s cowboy in chief. Along with closing the mental health hospitals and clinics creating the the homeless boom, he appoints Bill Bennett who took an axe to education including ending the teaching of Civics. Now education is big business and seems to be a tool for the oligarchs to line their pockets. I will get off my soapbox now. Of course, you're right. It's a national embarrassment that we punish people for pursuing knowledge, a better life, opportunity.
That said (and apologies for over-stepping), I worry that you've fought for so long...in war, at home, that it's difficult for you to live without rage. You deserve to have peace, you deserve not to self-flaggelate for believing an administration's lies to propagandize for war.
It's all about the madness of privatization. Americans have been suckered into the idea that education, healthcare and prisons should exist for profit. It's all part of the Oligarch's Playbook.
And it is just another example of the fantasy and idiocy of "American Exceptionalism Disorder". I call it AED. Not learning from others and their successes is a sign a national mental illness.
