It is amazing and stunning to me that there has been so much railing about the role of government in our lives yet so little acknowledgement that billionaires are sucking the well being out of millions of citizens.
The stats you quote about the distribution of income, wealth and how we collect taxes should make most Americans furious.
But we hear crickets. We should be hearing the shouts of demonstrators. We should be in the midst of a redistribution revolution.
Why aren't the working poor upset with the uber rich? I just don't get it.
I like Mark’s question about the genetic component of narcissism. I have (unfortunately) met more than one person in my life who wreaks havoc on a whole family and the ONLY thing that ends or will end the chaos is their death in old age. I have seen this in my own family and in my husband’s as well. They are unable to change as far as I can tell. Our families are small and not wealthy. I wonder if those people had access to more power what it would mean for the larger community. Luckily their power is only within our small families. No office holders or CEOs. If they had more power and wealth their destruction and control would have had consequences for a lot more people.
Astute observations about Dark Triad traits and positions of power. We need processes and systems to screen out those who have Dark Triad traits and who seek authority over others.
