I've been pessimistic about this country for a long time. I thought Trump would win, but I never predicted an overwhelming mandate.
You were absolutely correct about the corrosive and widespread influence of Evangelical Christianity. I understood the former...not the latter.
I agree on a number of predictions, though not all.
Mass deportations of Latinos, Muslims, and Haitians will be chaotic and frenzied...destroying families, sweeping up legal immigrants (now an oxymoron), and gutting multiple industries (healthcare, farming, service industries, meat packing). This, along with multiple tariffs, will cause an irreversible downward market spiral.
All those who voted for their 401ks...rip
All the Latinos who voted to deport "the other Latinos"...oh well
All the GenZers who believed Trump's lie about abortion...good luck being first-time parents
All the Boomers who voted out of spite...say goodbye to Social Security and Medicare
All the CEOs salivating over tax breaks...wait until the extortion bill comes due (or else)...they'll pray for the days when taxes were their biggest issue
All the vipers lining up for jobs...wait until Trump has the power of life and death over them...oh well, no recourse
I do see the country splitting apart. There's no other choice when half the country is being persecuted. The only question is whether it happens before or after hyperinflation, mass deportations, market implosion, etc.
I've been absent here for a bit as I got married and inherited two children. My new family has been my focus. What a time to be alive. A dark time, but hopefully the pendulum will now swing the other way.
Sadly, much suffering will have to occur before it does. Preventable suffering, and easy to predict. When the oligarchs are allowed to poison the minds of everyone else, of course ignorance, stupidity, and selfishness rise to the top.
I hope to see you on the other side of the coming troubles.
I was hoping you would write.

Judging human nature by history...I
think the latter.
HW,

Congratulations! I wish you happiness despite the blight of the moment.
