A profound moral quandary

The god of Christians isn't loving at all

The Christian Bible is full of impossible contradictions. Yet Christians believe that their god is the source of all morality. To continue believing this, they must somehow justify verses like these:

“If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives.”
(Leviticus 20:13)

Murder homosexuals. God is indeed just and loving. The Bible also commands the murder of male-female adulterers.

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
(2 Chronicles 15:12-13)

Murder anyone who does not worship your tribal god.

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the Lord your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the Lord your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the Lord will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. “The Lord your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him.”
(Deuteronomy 13:13-19)

Another command to murder - raze towns and cities to the ground.

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.
(Exodus 21:7-11)

Slavery is just good family values. Also, polygamy. Nice. Americans who owned slaves used the Bible to justify their moral failing.

Exodus 21 20-1: Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.

Beating your slaves is OK but don’t beat them to death.

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.(Deuteronomy 22:28-29)

Imagine being forced to spend your whole life as a subservient to your rapist. The god of Israel commands it.

I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.
(1 Timothy 2:12)

God is definitely not a feminist, and Christian women should keep their mouths shut at all times, especially around their male masters.

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.”
(Matthew 5:17)

The turn the other cheek guy supports this Old Testament stuff 100%.

Why am I concerned about all this ancient nonsense? Because Christian Nationalists are trying to force me to live in a world that is dystopian. A world they control in the name of their monstrous invisible deity. Evolving Together is about moving forward into a world where everyone has a shot at living a meaningful life. Christian Nationalism is the opposite of that.

Human progress is retarded when followers of Israel’s evil tribal god are running the show. I do not want to live in a world where the “loving god” of Christians is the moral arbiter. Nothing worries me more than the religions spawned by Abraham. They promote going backwards, not forwards.
